What is SHARE?

A Practical School Health Training Toolkit for Resource-Limited Communities

OGT’s SHARE Program trains teachers in low-resource communities to provide life-saving health education and basic care directly in schools. These teachers, known as School Health Officers (SHOs), address preventable issues such as diarrhea, dehydration, injuries, and menstrual pain that often keep students out of class. SHARE offers a practical, low-cost, and scalable solution to keep children healthy and in school.

Why Schools?

In Kenya, there are 8 schools for every 1 healthcare facility.

Globally, nearly 90% of the world’s 3 million primary schools are located in developing, low- and middle-income countries, serving around 480 million children. This makes schools the most accessible platform to deliver life-saving health education and care.

School Health Programs are endorsed by the WHO, UNESCO, and governments worldwide, but are rarely implemented effectively. One Good Turn addresses this critical gap in Global Health by providing high quality and culturally adapted educational resources and training for local leaders to catalyze community-wide health literacy.

Our Approach

SHARE is designed to be adaptable for schools anywhere in the world, based on local needs and priorities. We use a train-the-trainer model, where local community leaders train School Health Officers using our educational toolkit, making the program sustainable and low-cost.

Our primary goal is to provide schools with high quality educational resources. School Health Officers attend multi-day training sessions and receive One Good Turn’s 300-page School Health Officer Handbook, a Student Health Club Activity Booklet, and reporting templates. Our curriculum is built on global best practices from the World Health Organization, UNESCO, and the CDC.

Locally Led,
Built to Scale

As schools adopt the program, they join a growing network of School Health Officers and Student Health Clubs that fosters peer learning and a stronger community health system. The pilot SHARE toolkit aligns with Kenya’s national school health policy and curriculum but built to be adaptable to other contexts and countries.
